Brittany Bingham

Dr. Brittany Bingham is an Indigenous researcher and the director of Indigenous Research at VCH Indigenous Health in a joint role with the Centre for Gender and Sexual Health Equity (CGHSE). She is also an assistant professor in social medicine at University of British Columbia. Bingham completed her MPH and PhD in Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University. Her research focuses on examining the social and structural factors or policies shaping Indigenous peoples’ health in Canada. Of particular focus are initiatives to enhance wellness for marginalized populations of Indigenous peoples’ including women and those who struggle with homelessness, mental illness and substance dependence. Her research includes the application of Indigenous and community-driven methodologies as well as ethnographic, epidemiological, and mixed methods. Her research is guided by a focus on Indigenous self-determination, privileging Indigenous knowledge and human rights perspectives. Bingham’s most recent research involves the development of Indigenous implementation science methods for assessing system transformation for cultural safety and humility and a provincial study investigating access to responsive justice among survivors of gender based violence.
